July 1936 the Airport was built and opened Rangsdorf by Ernst Sagebiel. In World War II Rangsdorf temporarily took over the operation of Tempelhof especially on military flights. From here landed figures like Ernst Udet, Elly Beinhorn, Heinz Ruehmann.
Also on this basis started, Claus von Stauffenberg On 21-July -1944 his flight with a bomb in his briefcase  to Hitler's headquarters.
Where he made an unsuccessful assassination attempt on the life of German dictator Adolf Hitler.
Furthermore, this was an important landing courier and liaison facility with
airplanes. From the airport, they drove by car only 20 minutes to the army headquarters in Zossen / Wünsdorf.
After the war the airfield was taken over by Russian Forces,
Soviet helicopters and airplanes were here in service or were discharged.
There were in begin 90 all kinds of plane wrecks of Mig 25 and Mi-2.
Here were also checked and repaired piston engines from the early seventies coming Mi-1 helicopters, Mi-Mi-2.
The 16th Air Army of the Soviet Air Force was stationed here until the
withdrawal in 1994.
